1. What can I expect during an Integrative Energy Healing treatment session?

You can expect a safe, comfortable, relaxing environment with a padded massage table to lie on or, if you prefer, a chair to sit in. You will remain fully clothed while the practitioner works with your energy field, hands on or off the body, and always with your permission.

Your initial assessment will include a brief medical history, your physical, emotional and spiritual concerns, and an assessment of your energy field. Collaborative goal setting ensures a client-guided treatment and a trusting therapeutic relationship.

During a session you may experience sensations of warmth, coolness, tingling and/or physical release of tension associated with energy flow. You may also experience emotional release in the form of tears or laughter. This is normal and should not be suppressed as release enables healing.

After a session, most clients have a sense of lightness and well-being. Sometimes the integration of physical or emotional changes can take several days. If you have any concerns, contact your IEH practitioner for their support and guidance.

2. How long is a typical Integrative Energy Healing session?

Sessions can be as short as half an hour or extend to one-and-a-half hours. The length of the session depends on the condition being treated, your preference and your goals. The length of the session and fee for services should be agreed upon at the time of booking.

3. How many sessions will I need?

The optimal number of sessions will vary. For relaxation, one session may be enough. In the treatment of chronic disease and/or multiple issues, five sessions are recommended to shift a pattern. Regular on-going sessions are effective in supporting your personal growth. You can best determine this in consultation with your Integrative Energy Healing practitioner.

4. What can I expect from an Integrative Energy Healing practitioner?

You can expect a professional, trusting relationship based on open communication and a mutual desire for your healing. Referral to other health care practitioners or physicians will be suggested when appropriate. Integrative Energy Healing Practitioners listed in the Directory adhere to a Code of Ethics. See Find an Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner.

5. How do I select an Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner?

You can start by browsing Find an Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner to find someone in your area. Different practitioners have different strengths, specialities and interests. Read about their practice and get a sense if they feel like the right person for you. Your relationship with your practitioner should be a partnership. Their expertise, experience and understanding are there to support your health goals.

Next, call or email the practitioner you are interested in and interview them. Tell them a bit about you, what you want to achieve and ask how they can best support you in your goals. Have they worked with clients with conditions similar to yours? What is their philosophy on health and healing? Does it match yours? Ask about session times and rates. If you are comfortable with their answers, make an appointment for an initial session.

Sometimes you will only know you've found the right practitioner when you actually receive a treatment from them. Is their office clean and comfortable? Is it accessible? What kind of “space” do they hold? Do you feel safe and comfortable with them? Do they listen to you? Are they consistent, respectful, non-judgmental? Accepting, caring and patient? Do they have good boundaries and clearly set the guidelines for your work together? Will they give you the tools to enable you to do your own work between sessions if this is important to you? If the answer to your questions is “Yes”, then you've found the right practitioner for you.

6. What does an Integrative Energy Healing practitioner expect from me?

We want you to have the fullest healing experience possible. Please be on time so you can have a complete session. Open communication is important. Please share with your practitioner your health concerns, your goals and your intention for the session. Ask any questions you may have. Payment is to be made at the time of treatment.

7. Who can benefit from an Integrative Energy Healing treatment?

Everyone. Whether you are seeking balance, relief from stress, help releasing energy patterns causing pain or emotional distress, or if you wish to go deeper into trauma release or spiritual connection, IEH treatment is supportive. Energy work is compatible with medical treatment – pre- and post-surgical, chemo, radiation and other medical procedures. IEH is intended to complement the medical system.

8. Are Integrative Energy Healing treatments covered by B.C. Healthcare or other medical insurance?

At this time B.C. Healthcare does not reimburse your IEH treatments. Few insurance companies recognize the benefits of energy-based treatments to their clients, so please check with your personal insurance provider.

9. How does Integrative Energy Healing differ from Reiki, Healing Touch and other energy treatments?

Reiki, Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, Qi Healing, Pranic Healing and Integrative Energy Healing are all energy-based techniques. Each is a particular way of working with energy. Each has specific training requirements.

Healing therapies are in a time of unprecedented change as the frontiers of neuroscience, energy medicine and consciousness expand and merge.
– Joan Borysenko, Ph.D

Certification as an Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner requires successful completion of the three-year, 700-hour Langara College training program. As part of their training, IEH students complete a minimum of 300 documented treatments, over one-third of which are provided in a supervised clinic setting and in addition, students conduct 5 case studies with clients experiencing chronic conditions.

Integrative Energy Healing practitioners receive extensive training in various energy-based modalities as well as anatomy and physiology which they use to support you in your healing. Your IEH practitioner may use body and/or emotional awareness techniques, chakra and meridian clearing, therapeutic dialogue, trauma release, myofascial and CranioSacral techniques or other approaches as guided by their experience, intuition and intention.

During the program, we learn how to ground ourselves and how to clear our own human energy field enabling us to be clear channels of energy for our clients. We study the structure of the energy system from ancient Vedic texts interpreted through the work of contemporary healers Barbara Brennan, Roslyn Bruyere and Anodea Judith. See Human Energy Field. And we delve into the wisdom of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) and learn how it applies to our bodies through the polarity process. We learn to meditate. From the Shamanic traditions we learn about the inter-connectedness of all life and the importance of ceremony. We are introduced to various spiritual traditions with the goal of developing our own personal spiritual practice.

We also concentrate on our own inner healing work. Only by engaging in our own healing journeys can we achieve the insight and understanding to effectively support others in theirs. See The Healing Model.
